Sligo championship show was held yesterday in the now familiar grounds of Newtown Forbes GAA Club near Longford town. This is a “country” show with its own particular character – a welcome interlude from the regular visits to Cloghran. Rings were well laid out and seemed to be of good size throughout. The weather kept us guessing between warm sun and cool cloud cover, and one heavy shower stopped proceedings for a few minutes, but generally people were able to relax & enjoy a well run show, with incidentally a for once clear Tannoy system.
There were several overseas judges who had attracted some good entries. Sometime after 4 pm, Ralph Dunne was faced with his 10 Group winners for final selection of BIS. After careful examination and individual movement, the choice, a popular one going by the cheers, was Ms C Kelly’s beautiful & free-moving Hungarian Vizla, RISLEY MARK THE MOMENT, handled as always by Ms Sinead Taggart. Second was Eamon Murray’s Beagle, HEATHERGROVE PERSIAN WARRIOR; third, Margaret & Monica Boardman’s big-winning American Cocker, AM CH GB & IR SH CH SAN JO’S BORN TO PARTY AN CH ’07 ’08 ’07 CW 08 ,09; and fourth, the Newfoundland, Mr W & Mrs A Dobbin’s, CH & ENG CH FAIRWEATHERS KNOCKOUT WITH BROOKLYNBEAR.
