As we have mentioned on this blog and our FACEBOOK page in the past, we get quite a few emails and phone calls from visitors to the site, that might not find an ad for the breed of dog that they are interested in, but think the site is a good starting point on the road to becoming the owner of a pup that has come from a responsible dog breeder.
Following is just one of these type emails, and next week I will post a blog dedicated to Murphy, written by Helen his now heartbroken owner.
“We lost our Old English Sheepdog (OES) last Wed 4th July. Sadly it was a tumor in the chest and internal bleed putting pressure on the heart. Our vet thought it was heart issues and missed the bleed. Sad as the boy was only 7 yrs and a most lovely dog. We have a little schnauzer who is very lost without his big friend.
We have always had OES dogs. Though our first was an OES x Wolfhound. She was massive and no one wanted her. We rescued her the day the council was going to put her down. She lived with us for 12 more yrs! Then we got a very badly treated dog, called Pollyanna. She was such a sweetheart but had been starved and beaten so much she was left blind and brain damaged. Due to her long stay in the USPCA, which was 2yrs, she would pace up and down all the time. So she came to us 2 weeks after Molly died and we nursed her and loved her but sadly her injuries eventually caught up and she passed away only 6 yrs of age. A week later we found Murph who had spent his entire puppy life locked in a shed at a “puppy farm”. Lots of work on him but eventually he turned into the most adorable boy. Sadly we lost our boy last week after only 5 and a half years with us. So now we are in a place to offer a home to another OES. This time we have decided to look at a pup for a lot of reasons. We don’t want a big dog coming in and bulldozing Gizzy the little dog. We want to have a healthy pup this time round that we know a history of. We have done a lot for OES dogs that need rescued but now we feel that we would like a dog that is healthy and young and we can put our own stamp on it rather than sorting out other folks mistakes and or cruelty.
So here we are looking for the first time at pups from a breeder. We would love to have support to find the “right” one. We are totally against puppy farming and rescued Murph from that life.
We are based in Northern Ireland on a peninsular. We are willing to wait on a breeder if they are planning a litter. We are willing to travel too but would like to be able to visit a breeder and see how things go there.
Thank you so much for all your help.”
