It was with great sadness on Sunday AM that we learned of the passing away of a close friend of ours.
Mary Arundel had been involved in the world of Dog Shows for many years, and was a true Dachshund enthusiast. It was fitting that we received the news whilst seated around the Dachshund ring at Deise Championship Show.
When we first started showing about 7 years ago, it was Mary that made us feel most welcome around the Dachshund ring, and we soon struck up a friendship. Mary was devoted to her Dogs, Rocco, Spiro, Indie and Ruby and in return for what must have been like living in doggie paradise, they brought her many years of happiness.
I blogged recently about sportsmanship, the lack of it, in the world of Dog Shows, and can safely say that we could all take a leaf out of Mary’s book in relation to the same.
Mary had some fantastic dogs, of exceptional breeding, but no matter what grading or result was handed out by the judge, she always walked out of the ring with a smile on her face. Not once did I ever hear her complain about a judges decision, or run down another exhibitors dog. She was in it for the love of her dogs, and used the shows as a means to keep in touch with some valued friends.
She will be missed greatly, and I think that if we were all to approach a days showing the way that Mary did, we would all get a lot more out of our hobby
May she rest in Peace
