Italian Spinone.
What attracted you to this breed ?
Initially their appearance which is very soft and gentle and this also proved to be a typical indication of their nature.
What advice would you offer to anybody that is interested in becoming an owner of this Breed?
Make sure all health tests have been undertaken and go to a reputable breeder. Spinoni love people/children/other animals and will be destructive and unhappy if left for hours alone. This breed needs to be part of your family don’t buy one if you are out at work all day.
Does the Breed have any specific requirements by way of exercise & grooming?
A correct coat just needs hand plucking and brushing to keep it looking good. However some Spinoni have longer softer coats that do require hand stripping and this involves a lot of time and patience. Min. exercise required at least an hours walk a day.
Does the Breed have any specific health tests that should be done before a Dog or bitch is used at stud or bred from?
Yes. Dogs must be certified clear of C/A and Hip scored. Eye and Elbow testing is recommended but not essential .
Finally, how would you sum up the characteristics of this breed and what type of household would they best be suited too?
Gentle, loving, good with children and other pets. Excellent Hunt Point Retrieve for those interested in shooting or Field Trials. Easy to train and suitable for a rural or urban setting. In a nut shell there are very few families this breed would not suit.
