IKC International Show

IRISH KENNEL CLUB INTERNATIONAL SHOW SEPT 11TH 2010.

The Irish Kennel Club made new history this week-end, as this was the first occasion the IKC hosted two back-to back dog shows .

Yesterday we had an All Breed International Championsip Dog show and to-day the IKC will be hosting an All Breed National dog show both events being held at the National Show Centre Cloghran, Co Dublin.

The present economic climate was a part of the reason for the IKC having these shows, as the IKC had suffered consederable financial losses when they hosted the European show in Dublin June 2009.

So some action had to be taken by the IKC, and as the saying is, always do what you can do best when the need is great, so holding  this 2 days of shows was an obvious choice for the IKC.

There was some doubt thrown by IKC memebrs on the idea, as adding 2 more shows to the already full IKC show calender and maybe some people felt having added shows in September, following the popular “Circuit” week, which always proved very hard on the pockets of exhibitors, on top of the Carlow show that is already on the Show agenda for this month, this might push them over the edge. But now with the number of Internationals shows down to 2,and to make up an International Show Champion a dog must win 4 CACIBs it is getting more difficcult for Irish dogs, so this fact added to to the idea of the IKC hosting this week-ends shows. And to give our very welcome overseas exhibitors and even our long distance Irish exhibitors so to say 2 bites of the proverable cherry the IKC added a National Show as well with Green Stars, and this show has drawn an entry of over 1100 dogs, so well done the hard working IKC committee who have put so much work into this week-end events.

At yesterday’s International show there was an entry exceeding 1700 dogs, coming from all over Ireland the UK and Europe seeking a CACIB or a Green Star in Cloghran. For the first time too the IKC were offering the title of Irish Champion to any dog winning a CACIB/Green Star who is already a Champion of its own Country who is part of the FCI Federation.

Judges came from far afield as well, so the show had a real International buz about it. Luck was really with the IKC yesterday as even proving the weather forecast wrong most of the day. The morning started a bit cloudy and chilly and after a light shower or two the day bringtened up into a real summer day, so making it very pleasant for the exhibitors whoes dogs were being judged outside.

The rings were well laid out both inside and outside, the only draw-back inside was there trade-stand room was rather restricted, but they all seemed to be doing a steady brisk business. Yesterdays show was generiousley sponcered by Red Mills Food Ireland.

The Groups and Puppy Groups, were kept moving at a steady pace, during the afternoon and by approx 5.30 it was time for Mr Kari Jarvinen the well know Finnish all-rounder judge to enter the large green carpeted ring to judge Best In Show.

Called into the ring there were 10 beauitiful dogs, each reperesting their respective groups, Mr Jarvinen took not long to decide who his winners would be, and to the large roar of approval from the ring-side he called into top spot and the winner of the IKC  International Show 2010 Miss Catherine Kelly’s Hungarian Vizsla Ch Rushleys Mark the Movement, the Group 7 winner handled as usual by Sinead Taggart. Marco is already a BIS winner and mulpiple Group winner, so just more icing on the cake for his very proud owner and over joyed handler.

Into second place Mr Jarvinen called the beautifully presented top winning Pomeranian Ch/GBCh Belliver the Ultimate Creation, who already had topped Group 5, owned by Carroll and Newman and handled to-day by Sean Carroll.

Into 3rd place was called the group 3 winner the Smooths Fox Terrier, already to a BIS winner Ch Shillelagh Smooth Operator  owned and handled by Ross Delmar .

And finally the 4th place rosettee was handled by Mr Jarvinen to the Welsh Corgi and the Group 2 winner Ch Craigycor Viva La Diva owned by Alan Matthews.

So all exhibitors showing to-day at Cloghran we at Pedigreedogs.ie send our best wishes for a very successful day, and tomorrow we will bring you more results.
