Dún Laoghaire Canine Society Monkstown 76th Annual All Breed Championship show.

Yesterday the National Show Centre at Cloghran was the venue for Dún Laoghaire Canine Society “Monkstown” Annual All Breed Championship show.
Weather was ideal with only a light rain shower during the late afternoon, when luckily all the outdoor judging was completed.
The show was held both outdoor and in the hall, this is not always ideal for exhibitors showing breeds whose rings are outdoor and indoors as exhibitors have to be hopping around a lot so not to miss their respective classes. Many exhibitors agree too the having the layout divided takes away from the congenial atmosphere of the show.
Out of doors from very early morning exhibitors had set up tents, some exhibitors arriving with so much goods and food one would think they were staying for a week’s holidays rather than one day. But all this effort on exhibitors parts certainly makes shows seems a real day out to meet up with family and friends to just chill out and relax as well as showing dogs.
Inside, some exhibitors were having celebratory parties including Yvonne Cannon {Cloughlea Shih Tzus}, Sean Carroll/James Newman {Balliver Poms/Paps} and the Knowles family. So many Champagne corks could be heard popping, and the spreads of food that were provided were absolutely spectacular.
There were a visiting party of US doggy folk from the Contra Costa Country Kennel Club visiting, who had donated generous prizes to the show for the Champion and Puppy Stakes. The visitors all smartly dresses in black, their shirts boasting their club logos, seemed to be enjoying their visit and happily chatting around the Irish exhibitors.
The show committee had invited a nice mix of Irish and oversea judges, but the main complaint of the day was that many of the judges were allocated too many breeds, so as time marches on towards Group time, some judge had to rush through their remaining breeds and there for some exhibitors who had patiently waited all day to be judged, it was a quick in and out of the ring, rather than the usual careful examination and movement watching that we expect from judges.
The Best in Show judge was Mr A Brace {UK}. He choose for top honours a new face to the BIS rostrum the Black Russian Terrier, from Cavan and winner of Group 2, Ch Holmes/Lyons Ch Standinghouse Tsar at Kalaslane. Res BIS went to Ingram/Ryans Toy Poodle, Ch Tirkane Burning Desire and the winner of group 9.
Earlier in the day Mr Philip Behan had judged the Stakes Classes. He choose for his winner of the overall Best Puppy in Show, the beautiful new Pomeranian from the Belliver Kennels, Belliver Unexpected Connection, handled by James Newman and owned in partnership with his uncle Sean Carroll.
In the Champion Stakes Mr Behan called into top spot Cuthbert/Matthews’ Whippet, Ch/GB Ch/Int Ch Collooney He’s The One.
And in the Veteran Stakes, the over 9 years old Siberian Husky, Ch/Int Ch Suraliam Gandalf The Grey, owned by Jason Duggan and handled to-day by Noel Beggs topped the entry.
So the 76th Annual Dun Laoghaire dew to a close for another year, so see you at the next show and then of course is the Circuit coming up ……
