Responsible Dog Ownership in Ireland. Is it a fairytale ?

I was at a social media conference recently and the keynote speaker advised that social media thrives on stories…

Well here is a story I heard the other day

Boy meets Girl
Boy and Girl fall in love
Boy and Girl get married
Boy working away from home a lot so Boy and Girl decide to get dogs
Boy gets Dobermann Girl gets Golden Retriever
Boy and Girl don’t have time to exercise dogs so put them in a dog run all day
Dogs become bored and eat their way out of dog run
Dogs kept in house all day
Boy & Girl have a baby
When baby being born dogs kept in bathroom alone in house for 3 days
Dobermann escapes the other day and nearly kills neighbours livestock
Girl actually afraid of Dobermann
Girl going back to work soon and will leave the house very early and not return until late evening
Dogs will be kept in house all day

This particular story hasn’t ended yet, but I think you know the ending yourself

It’s a message that we continually try to get across here at Pedigree Dogs.ie that dogs are a long term commitment, ranging anything from 10 to 18 + years, and what might seem like a great idea now, may turn out to be a disastrous decision in a couple of years time.

Only last week Joxer wrote a blog about a similar instance Ah sure it’s only a dog and this on top of the horrendous cruelty cases reported around the country recently, would make you think that we are swimming against the tide in relation to changing the minds of a large percentage of people in Ireland, when it comes to responsible dog ownership.

We launched this site back in January 2010 thinking that as we seen it as a great idea, so would every body else.

In a recent Q&A with Ulster Banks Business Bite Magazine I was asked If I could change one thing to help the web site what would it be, my answer – “peoples attitudes to dog ownership”…maybe I’d have a better chance of winning the Euro Millions !
