Dog Expo – Galway

Reports came in over the week end of several dogs that were attending the XXVII International Dog Show of San Marino have died from poisoning

It seems the poison used was strychnine which was sprayed on the grass so any dog licking his feet etc was automatically poisoned.

The San Marino Kennel Club knew that lately there had been several other cases of poisoned dogs in the same area

This I am sure you will all agree is a extremely tragic event, and one which could have happened anywhere.

It looks like the perpetrator was not a competitor, just some Psycho that has it in for dogs for some reason.

Having said that, we have all heard of dogs being “Gotten at” whilst attending dog shows in the UK and Ireland, and this would most definitely have been the result of a jealous competitor.

Yesterday I attended Dog Expo held by Madra in the Black Box in Galway. My invite came from the Corrib Canine Club, and I must say it seems to have been an extremely successful day.

The crowds were huge from start to finish, and a word of congratulations must go to the organisers who kept the huge numbers thoroughly entertained throughout the whole day.

The Corrib Canine Club gave a ring craft demonstration, which attracted a large crowd that were in awe of the quality dogs that were on display.

Other competitions were for the dog that most looked like it’s owner, and the dog with the waggiest tail.

It was whilst I was watching the later, that I seen the owner that came third walking away with a lovely rosette, and with the biggest smile and genuine love for her dog, that made me think why can’t all of the dog show fraternity take the same approach.

I think that one member of the Corrib Canine Club summed it up nicely, by saying yesterday was “All about the dogs”
