In my blogs over the few days of Crufts 2011, my opinion was that the coverage by More4 on the TV was very good.
It seems that not everybody agrees with the same, as Mark Watts,Chief Executive,RSPCA has written a letter to the Kennel Club (London) voicing his concerns that the presenters and interviewees expressed the opinion that the dogs shown at Crufts were happy & healthy
My overall opinion is that there has been an awful lot of good work carried out by responsible breeders and the Kennel Club ,over the last few years, in improving breed standards with an eye to producing happy healthy dogs.
I think all involved would say that in certain breeds of dogs, there is still a long way to go, but come on, let’s not be dancing on pedigree dogs head all the time.
Could the RSPCA not have started their letter by saying that a lot of good work had been done, and row in behind the cause to keep the movement going ?
It’s easy to pick on large organisations like the Kennel Club, as they are never going to get it 100% correct. What about all the breeders of so called designer breeds, where little or no health screening is done to the parents pre mating ? Thing is, these are not part of any group so don’t attract the attention of the RSPCA etc.
As I mentioned over the last few weeks, I think that Caroline Kisko from the Kennel Club (London) is doing a great job, and anyone looking for information about breeds they may be interested in, can find this on the Kennel Club website. They can also find accredited breeders should they wish to go on and become a dog owner.
There is only so much that an organisation like the Kennel Club can do…The rest is down to Joe public…Let people make up their own mind..
