The ENTLEBUCHER Mountain Dog
THE ENTLEBUCHER Mountain Dog looks set to come off the Imported Breed Register and become eligible for full KC recognition.
Despite there being only 13 in the UK at the moment, the EMD Club of GB is determined to give the breed the best start possible, and hopes to see the breed gain in popularity and become a real contender in future competitions.
Entlebuchers fist arrived in the UK around 10 years ago, when Lucy Denman brought two over from France. Eight years ago they produced a litter, and the breed was officially recognised on the Import Register four years ago.
Since then the guardians of the breed have worked tirelessly to promote the breed, and have put a clear emphasis on the health and temperament aspects.
Rosemary Kind said ‘I moved back from Belgium to the UK with one Entlebucher, and together with all owners of the breed, we have tried to give the breed as good a start as possible. At the moment we work with the Swiss standard, which tests for health and character, so our UK dogs go through that.
‘Two years ago we set up the Entlebucher MD Club of GB, and we sent our application to the KC last November. We are determined to set very high standards for health and breeding. So fingers crossed!’
Lovers of the breed expect an answer from the KC some time in September.
