Limerick All Breed Championship Show 2010

A light drizzle of rain stayed over Limerick show yesterday, but luckily not like other years the ground was rock hard at the Woodlands Hotel venue, so unlike previous years the ground under foot was not like whipped cream and straw had to be put in the entrances so to get people in and out, leaving a terrible mess for the committee to later have to clear up.

The Woodland Hotel, Adare  is really a superb venue for Limerick show, its a real treat on arrival to go in and enjoy a cooked breakfast and lunch time a hearty meal in Timmy Macs Bistro is a real must.

Limerick show is always very well laid out and this year was no exception, at every corner you can see committee members in their very smart blue jackets keeping a good eye on what’s happening and group timings etc seem to work just like clock-work, just proving how much work the committee put into the yearly show.

The large Best in Show ring as usual was well decorated with seating for the judges, as soon as the Groups were completed the BIS was called. Ten lovely dogs came in for Mrs E Haapanie from Finland to judge. Interestingly of the ten dogs, five of the dogs were new to Group winning, also noticed many of the placed dogs in the Groups were new to top honours so it most certainly must have been a very exciting day for all their proud owners.

Mrs Haapanie is one of Finland most respective judges and always a very welcome face to see judging in Ireland.  After careful consideration Mrs Haapani called the Labrador Retriever Sh Ch Brockburrow Dream Maker for Gostwyck JDJun Ch CJ’09AnCH’09 owned by Mr & Mrs Merrill
already the winner of Group 8 into the BIS position. What an amazing win for this Roscommon based dog, how pleased and proud his owners and breeder Mrs Moylett must have felt.

Into 2nd place Mrs Haapanie pointed to the well known Welsh Corgi Pembrook Ch Craigycor Viva La Diva owned by Mr Alan Matthews from Co Down. And the Group 1  winner.

3rd top spot was awarded to the Group 9 winner the beautiful Maltese Ch Lafford Trade Marc Sh Ch JCh CW’09owned by Mrs C Lees from the UK, already  on Tuesday at Killarney Larry had notched up a GS/BOB. 

And the 4th place rosette  Mrs Haapanie awarded to the Serbian bred and multi travelled Kerry Blue Terrier and the winner of Group 3 GBCH/Int/Ch/MultiCh  Dandy Black & Blue owned by Ms C Davani/Ms J Poulova/Mr P O’Brien and breeder Ms A Ban.
So another Limerick show was completed, and a lot of very happy people leaving the Adare venue. One owner who most certainly had a lot to celebrate and the journey home to Cork must have been greatly shortened by her excellent day was Mrs Carmel Barry-Sheehan not alone did her German bred Afghan Ch Agha -Djaris Under A Spell win Group 10 but also her Saluki Ch/INTCH Ulmarra Habibi At Kahraman won 3rd place in Group 10, quite a wonderful achievement for the very small Kahraman Sighthound kennel.

Congratulations to the hard working Limerick committee and specially secretary Pia Dempsey and Anthony Kelly, who seems to keep everything on the move during the day.
