Killarney All Breed Championship Dog show 2010
Killarney All Breed Championship Dog show is the only Irish dog show that is set amongst a busy town, not alone this but Killarney without any doubt is one of Ireland’s most beautiful and popular tourist towns,
So therefore at Killarney show there is a good mix of local people visiting and holiday makers having a day out to see the dogs which adds nicely to the relaxed atmosphere of “Circuit” week.. The show is looked down on by the magnificent St Mary’s Cathedral, this August celebrating 155 years since its consecration .
I am sure all the invited overseas judges are most impressed by the Killarney show setting, and feel very privileged to judge in such wonderful surroundings.
Yesterday started with a light “Kerry” mist, engulfing Killarney town, as the day progressed the light rain cleared, but the sky still let no great amount of sunlight through, so no need for the suncream or to worry about dogs getting sunstroke.
As, the other “Circuit” shows Killarney had invited a mix of Irish and overseas judges, and gave the honour of judging Best in Show to Canadian Mrs Carmel Haller.
The Chief steward Dick McCoy, kept everybody on their toes all day, and when he called time for BIS, in came into the ring 10 lovely representatives of their respective Groups.
After some consideration Mrs Haller called into BIS top spot, the Cavan based and winner of Group 2, the very impressive Black Russian Terrier, Ch Standinghouse Tsar At Kalaslan
JChCW’09AnCh’09/’10 , owned by Mrs Belinda Holmes and Mr Joe Lyons and piloted as usual by Joe . This was Tsar’s second BIS win having also recently topped the entry at Monkstown Championship Show.
Into second place Mrs Haller called in the Navan owned Irish Wolfhound and Group 10 winner Mr &Mrs G Clarke’s Ch Opherra of Shantamon JchCW’10.
Mrs Haller called into third place the UK owned and Group 1 winner the Australian Shepherd Dog Sangosands StarsN Stripes JWSHCM owned by Mrs LS Brown.
And fourth place was awarded to the winner of Group 3, all the way from Co Derry the Kerry Blue Irisblu Boomerang JCh, owned by Mr & Mrs H Quigg.
So, as everyone bid their farewells to Killarney show 2010, their thanks must go to the committee of Killarney for once again putting on a good show, special thanks go to Patsy Lawlor the hard working show secretary, now some 30 years in the job and husband Dave . And of course no Killarney would be completed without the very active President Evelyn Hurley.
